So I have been thinking I would design some great botanical invitation theme, but then my friend's invitation was so witty and creative that I realized I wanted to have more fun with it.
Does anyone have any fun and creative ideas that they used with their invitation either to tell a story of how the couple met etc? I'm thinking maybe pictures of us when we were kids and our different families, square vs. hippie and then maybe a little stick figure trail for each of us to our final meeting place???
Please tell me if that sounds good, any extra ideas or if it's just plain hokey.

My tattoo guy has offered to make us invites like the ones he made when he got married: a trifold invitation with stick figure drawings of groom and bride with the text "(pg1) See groom. (pg2)See bride. (pg3)See groom and bride get married," Like the Dick and Jane business. I think it would look better with children's-book-style illustrations, but I thought it was a cute idea.

I saw a wedding invitation in a design annual that was entitled "How to Tie a Knot". It was printed on brown, unbleached paper with a very sparse font (it almost looked like it had been typed on an old-school typewriter), and took the form of an instruction booklet for sailors or boy scouts. And, of course, the booklet was bound with knotted twine.
Also, I kicked around the idea of making a STD or invite that looked like a maze from the back of a cereal box or something, with my face at one end and my fiance's at the other.
Then, of course, there are always hilarious the invites that have the pears on them and say "A Perfect Pair!" Get it? Because pear = pair? Those are almost as fabulous as the dressed-up teddy bears.
Good luck to you, SassySpice.

If you go to http://today.maganda.org/yesterday/000900.html
and scroll down you can see her invites. She and her husband are both illustrators and they drew their own pictures in the style of a children's book. It might give you some ideas.

Some friends of my parents got married in their 50's. It was the second marriage/wedding for both of them. Their invite wording went something like this:
John "Over my Dead Body" Smith
and
Jane "Absolutely Never Again" Jones
announce the eating of their words.
I'm not sure how appropriate it is for everyone but it still make me giggle.
Though the names “Jesus” and JAAAAYSUS are phonetically similar, the latter refers to a completely different set of ideology that few would classify as Christianity…or even sanity.

I saw this site and thought of your post

I never would have thought of the peanuts or chili peppers.

I would really love to see the movie poster invitations, if you have a photo. Did you print them yourselves?

I have no idea how to upload files here, so here's my first shot. If it doesn't come over I'll keep trying.
We did the invitations ourselves, using silver metallic pearlescent paper that I bought at Office Depot. I've seen the same paper on papersource.com, where I bought the black envelopes we used. So, black envelopes, silver address labels and silver fleur-de-lis envelope seals. it looked nice I think, and still glam and a little cheesy.
We wanted movie poster invites a la 40s era movies (again, see www.filmposters.com for ideas), but it seemed like you'd have to be a real artist to do some of that cool stuff. So I went with some basic imaging tools and made these at home, printed at home. Total cost for paper, envelopes, etc, was about $50. We've gotten rave reviews from guests, so I think they turned out well.
**Okay, that didn't work. Notes here say there should be a browse button at the bottom where I can upload from hard drive; I don't see such a button. Also, there's an icon to insert a picture but it's asking for image URL, which there is none; it's on my hard drive. Any suggestions for the newbie??

Hey, thanks Ginger!
Let's try this again for a pic of our movie poster invite.....

p.s. we live in a historic house/neighborhood in New Orleans named for the French guy who founded it. Title translates to "Love in Treme," name of our neighborhood.

Nolaqueenie, thanks for the picture. Those are really fun and pretty!
I was curious about what you did because I'm thinking about doing either our save the dates or invites (or both) in either old movie-poster style (with dramatic wording like in those old film reels), or either a gothic novel or pulp novel. Got plenty of time to think about it. Thanks so much for sharing your picture!

We honestly considered using the silly feauture on the Black Snake Moan movie website to photo shop Me and DH's faces in place of Christina Ricci's / Samuel L Jackson.
We decided it wiould really give his mum a heart attack if we did.
(DH is a massive R.L. Burnside fan and he's really psyched about the film)
If you go to the website, skip the into and then click on the menu button, then mess around, the click on down home facelift)

Okay, I admit it. I don't get it. Please explain EmilyFlew.

Sweet!
I love Arsenic and Old Lace, and y'all did a fabulous job of photoshopping on your faces!
My sister wrote us a limerick for our STDs. I'll post it in a bit-- I'm trying to get them finished today.
ETA: I especially love the "In Association With" bit at the bottom! I didn't notice that at first.

EmilyFlew, that's hilarious! I was thinking about doing a photo of a date in a ziplock bag, but I couldn't figure out how to avoid having it look like a cockroach and/or piece of poop to those who didn't get it.
You nailed it, though, with the almonds and such! Context is everything.
So close, and yet... so what?
