I'm glad ya'll like them!
Portia- I used dendrobium orchids. I picked up all the glassware at the Dollar Tree as well as the river rocks and iradescent marbles that are in the bottom of the arrangements... all $1 a peice.

First it's stress, stress, stress, wedding, wedding, wedding. Then it happens, you take a break, and then it's stress, stress, stress, thesis, thesis, thesis. And all of a sudden, there's no better time for IB!

^^^ They're fresh orchids... I tried to find silk, but I couldn't find any that I liked. Submerging flowers is almost like putting them under a magnifying glass- if the quality isn't decent, you'll really notice!
The good news is the glass cylinders are only 8" high. One stem of orchids will fill 2-3 cylinders...

On more question, Mia... any idea of how long the submerged orchids "hold up", would it be OK to do them the night before an evening reception? Several of us have offered to take care of decorating for the wedding reception of a friend, and we have the luxury of being able to do so after the rehearsal dinner. Thanks again!

^^^ night before should be fine... The orchids I used were so droopy and limp that Whole Foods just gave them to me... It took two days under water before they started to look funky.

About the submerging/holding up question - one of the tricks for reviving limp and drooping flowers is to recut the stem then submerge in water until the flower perks back up... so I suspect that flowers underwater hold up considerably better than flowers that only have their stems in water. Also less gravity exerting influence over the petals. ;)

Pretty much... they're just prayer candles I got at the dollar store. I stamped "love" on vellum squares cut with fancy edged siscors and glued onto the candles.
Thanks so much for the compliments... I really like how everything is comming together!
Tanpopo- that makes sense! Those near dead orchids I submerged looked great for way longer than I expected.
